At the Huerta

In the mornings I usually work the garden with Luz, my host mom.  She has two covered gardens from which she feeds the family and cuts herbs and vegetables to sell at the market.  There is lots of weeding to do - Costa Rica reminds me a little bit of New Orleans in that way.  It´s very fertile land, so everything wants to grow!

The first half

and the second half.

I planted the tiny cilantro in the bottom left corner.

The other garden

Bok choy and lettuce in this box

and two different kinds of cilantro in this one. Yuck!

Everything is organic and delicious beyond belief.  We go out and grab some lettuce and a cucumber for the salad for dinner, dice it up, and eat it!

you are on late - did you go to the market today? Anyway. . . the garden reminds me of the one across from you in NOLA. Do you put dressing on the salad, or just a bit of salt? It looks so clean and fresh, it would be good with nothing on it. And a fire ant? Ouch! ( I know - that was in the other post....)
Love you.

mom - usually on the salad we just juice a lime/lemon/sour mandarin and a little salt. i´m a total convert to this, it´s delicious!
